Welcome to the Introduction
to the Hebrew Bible course - Religion 111 - with
Rabbi Ammos Chorny. This site
is designed to aid in your preparation and studies for the course.
Course
Description:
This is not a “religion class” but rather, an introduction
to the Critical Analysis of the Ancient texts of the Hebrew Bible. Through
the study and analysis of classical ancient religious texts, in their
original historical and literary context; the students will be exposed
to the archeological, historical and literary evidence that serves as
the foundation of the philosophy and ideology of the biblical narrative.
Students will be expected to understand some of the
underlying themes and principles of biblical criticism, as well as
the impact they have on the development of what is currently labeled
as the “Western Civilization.”

students in their preparation for the tests.

The instgructor will periodicly post special announcements of importance
and interest to the class. This is where students will find out
if classes have been cancelled due to bad weather, make-up sessions,
etc. Please look at this sectin on a weekly basis. New information
or announcements are normally posted on Monday and Wednesday evenings.
